Hello fellow members,

After some general advice feed-backI have an interested party in a Lawnmower. He wishes to pay by cheque which I do not mind But he also wishes to issue a cheque which is greater than the cost of mower so that on its clearance i can pay the Courier which he will arrange. when it has cleared. He has only seen pictures of the machine and did not even "quibble" about the price. The wife is not over keen on the idea of conducting business this way so I thought I would get my Fellow members feed Back The person concerned does not seem to be a member, Just seen the advert on our site, not advertised elsewhere. What do you think?

I accept cheques for payment on the basis that when the funds clear into my account I'll ship the goods.

As for the courier, I would have him make the collection arrangements from his end and pay the courier himself.

This is a known scam, you bank the cheque, it seems to clear, so you pay the courier and send off the item.

However, at a later date, your bank will find that the cheque has bounced, so claws the money back from your account. In the end, you will lose the money and the mower, you will also pay for sending the mower to the 'buyer', you will then be unable to find the 'buyer'.

Yes, could be that type of scam.

I wait a week for cheque clearance, even though funds are usually in my account within 2 days of deposit. Thankfully I haven't had one reversed on me yet. Not talking large sums here.

For large sums I would insist on a bank cheque, which requires the funds to be in the drawer's account at the time the cheque is drawn by the bank teller, and the bank requires verifiable identification of the drawer.

Again, I would not arrange or pay the shipping. If the buyer won't arrange/pay it himself, then it's no deal.

Also, is the buyers address conveniently about as far from you as it's possible to get?
