Dennis premier mk1 drive problem

After some help we have a Dennis premier with the two leaver push down for cutter and drive. Cutter works fine when leaver pushed but when drive one is there is no movement does this sound like the clutch could of worn away??

Think that the Premier had automotive type clutches rather than the cone ones used on the earlier machines which could stick. Seem to remember  being told that they were the same as those used on the Hillman Imp.

Is the machine new to you with no history or has the drive been slowly deteriorating. Have you opened the chain case to check that the shaft is stationary or is the problem further down the drive train?

The mower is new to me but not the club they think it has been slowly getting worse. I have had the chain covers off and they are all both moving fine

I have dug out a Premier parts book and will add a link to it later when I'm in the office. The clutches look like conventional automotive ones but not of Imp origin as I suggested. However I guess that they will have been borrowed from another manufacturer's parts bin and not be Dennis specials so aftermarket replacements should be available.

With the drive chains exposed and the engine running , engage the roller clutch  - does the chain continue driving with the machine remaining stationary.? If so it suggests that he problem lies in either the drive to the roller shaft or within the differential mechanism inside the roller. However, if the chain stops it suggests a slipping clutch. If the latter in could just be an out of adjustment engagement / release mechanism.
