Hello

I am rebuilding a ransomes minor mk 7 and am looking for a replacement spring for the kickstart mechanism. (or something that can be tweaked to fit) - some pointers on where to start searching would be really helpful.

Cheers

Sorry It's not putting the full script that should have read after the Ransomes I have a 1952 Certes and Ransomes still supply the oil nipples.

No hadn't thought to try ransomes - since posting this have seen some springs on google/ebay that look like they might work with a bit of tinkering!

That's another interesting site for future reference. ( Good for browsing and "time wasting" ) Now perhaps someone can explain the differences between , Disc Springs, Pre Load Disc Springs and Belleville washers !

As I understand it the term Disc Spring is the generic name for this type of spring and that Belleville springs are probably one and the same with the Belleville name being the name of the inventor. It is a bit puzzling why they are listed separately though.

I suspect that preload springs would be sized to fit the profiles of a bearing and used to provide a constant preload to the bearing but would need to investigate that theory to confirm (what were you saying about wasting time!).

Unless of course someone can enlighten us differently.

Who started this?

Well I guess that would be me!

Time now to return the thread to Matt and his quest for a spring before he thinks we have hijacked him. Hopefully the information was of interest to readers though, we are all inclined to take simple components for granted.
