Hi all

Just joined up as I'm redoing my garden up as we speak and laying some turf down in the next few weeks.
Of course this means I need a mower now I've been looking at cylinder mowers and one has caught my eye and isn't to far away, but has one issue with it!

It runs but only runs at a set speed slight high with blades moving but won't decrease or increase from this point.
So what I'm wonder is does this sound like an easy fix? I'm quite keen on getting stuck in on the engine side of things having built a few car engines before so shouldn't be an issue.

This is the mower in question:

Can anyone tell me the year and engine it has too?

Thanks again

It probably has carb problems, so it could just need a good service, or it could need a new carb, you will not know until you try.

I personally would try and find another one, preferably one with a cast iron engine, there are other hidden problems. If you look at the chaincover, it seems to be held on with a bolt and it is a different colour to the rest of the machine. This usually means that the original one has been bashed so much it has fallen off, taking a chunk of the frame side with it.

Thanks for the reply, I see what you mean with the bolt. I'll keep on hunting then, seemed I couldn't really not look with price and where it was at.

anything to look for that will tell me it's a cast iron engine?

Well observed re the bolt and it possibly means that the original boss is broken out of the chassis. As H says , steer clear it may be a bit of a " bitza" , wrong fuel tank and out of period throttle control.

Cast iron engine will have a plastic plug on the front of the cylinder block with a pull out dip stick - unless it's very old when it will have a split pin dip stick just above the drain plug.

Thanks again for the feedback.

when I was doing my own hunting I couldn't find the same model with that fuel tank or the throttle. Thought it was something suspect about it but always best to double check.

ill only have a 20m square lawn to start. Maybe double once the side garden is complete so not needing a massive mower.

thanks again guys
