Collection, Preservation and Display of Old Lawn Mowers
Out for the first mow of the year and thought I should try and get the roller drive working. Trouble is the sprocket just spins round with the blades and doesn't engage with the roller.
Anyone have any suggestions?
pictures below. As you can see there's a hole where some spindle should go I guess?
thanks in advance!
There should be a Mills pin through that hole. A Mills pin is solid with flutes or a bulge making it a light drive fit to retain it in the shaft but a suitably sized spring / roll / spirol pin will do the job . needs to protrude about 3/8" either side of the shaft.
Thanks for the advice. I've jammed a bar in there at the moment and it does the job. What size should I get and any idea where to get one??
Thanks in advance!
Use a twist drill as a gauge and buy the appropriate size of roll pin which will actually measure slightly larger until driven into the hole.
Understood. How long should it be? Is it supposed to protrude from the square spaces between the two plates? Or just stay inside the clutch?
Hope that this answers your question.
