Webb wasp decal

Hi guys and greetings from Melbourne

on on the weekend I brought home a Webb wasp which i would like to restore.

It has no decal on the mower but the catcher seems to indicate it is a late  mark 5. Could someone please confirm this, and does anyone has a clear image of the appropriate side decal? As I would like to make one up.

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to the Old Lawnmower Club,

Looking at the paintwork of your mower it looks though it is in its original paint with no sign of a transfer having been on the side cover. I am sure I have one of these buried in my store so I shall locate it and check what it has on it for you.

Give me a day or so and I shall post my findings.

Greetings also.

I too have a Wasp well buried in the shed but won't be able to get to it for a couple of days so see what Hillsider' comes up with and I will let you know how mine compares in due course.

Whether to restore or preserve is a personal preference and the subject of many long- running debates  but if the paint work on your machine is original I would consider preservation rather than restoration.

Thanks gents, that would be much appreciated. The paint work is in great nick, but there are surface rust spots all over. Should I ignore these in the interest of preservation?

Thanks OC, I have access to that one here in oz. however, I believe my mower is a mark 5 and am going to do my best to keep it original.

This is is despite the fact I love the older series decals, particularly the catcher decal which matches the one you have posted

I have now unearthed my Webb Wasp and can confirm that there is definitely not a transfer on the chain case nor has there ever been one as the paintwork is original, interestingly the paint on my machine appears to be a lighter shade of green to that in your photo.

On my machine the rear roller has a cover over it that reaches forward to hide the thrower plate but it carries a transfer that states the model of the machine and that it a series 5.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that hillsider. I've now stripped mine and can confirm its the original paint also the model and serial number is stamped on a small silver decal on the left side panel. It does not state a mark/series

That's good then as I took a look at mine from a distance and it's parked the wrong way around and "impossible" to get at!
