Club member John Barnard's lawn mower shed - Lawnside House - at his home in Cheshire has been shortlisted in the Workshop/Studios category in the annual Shed of the Year competition. The organisers of the competition - - have now opened the public vote to find the winner but you'll need to be fast because voting closes at midday on Wednesday 8 June. The winner in each category and the overall champion will be announced on the Channel 4 TV programme "Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year" later this summer. John was one of the Old Lawnmower Club's founding members and he has also served on the committee since its inception. He has a large collection of mowers, many of which are highly unusual and have been lovingly restored by John using his expertise and experience as an engineer. He's already been filmed by the programme-makers and posed for photographs ready for the Channel 4 series which will be broadcast later this year. Don't forget, you need to vote by Wednesday 8 June.

Jim's New Website Promotes Book

Following the publication of his new book 'Hand, Horse and Motor: The Development of the Lawn Mower Industry in the United States', club member Jim Ricci has now revamped his own website with information about his long-term project to document the history and development of the American mower. As well as information about Jim and the book, you can find out more about his collection and view selected images of American machines.

The book has over 250 pages and more than 150 images of American mowers going back to the 19th century. Club members can order a copy of the book for collection at the forthcoming Annual Rally. Click here for more details (requires members to log onto site).

Annual Rally Countdown Begins

It's now less than a month until the club's Annual Rally at Milton Keynes Museum on 21/22 May. We'll be posting updates in the run up to the big event (our 27th since the first in 1990) with news about what will be going on over the weekend. This year we have a dual theme of Dennis and JP mowers and we hope there will be a good selection of static and working machines from each manufacturer on both days, the Sunday in particular. Club Members can log onto the site to access more detailed information about the event in our special section.
