Hi !
I can't find any timing marks on the camshaft or the crankshaft ? How can i time the valves correct ? This is my first Old mover I am restoration. Is there any repair manuals to buy ?

Would it have something to do with the hole in the large cog/gear, just guessing, maybe a mark on a plate underneath or casting has to be visible through hole. Im probably wrong.

Hi,

I can't say I've ever seen inside that engine but are the two dot marks arrowed the ones. Do they line up when you rotate the engine and can you then work backwards and set TDC and then timing on the piston and see if the marks line up.

Not easy !   Set the piston to  just past top dead centre  - not more than 6mm, and  then the cam gear on the rock - clearance on both valves.  Then look really carefully at the small segment on each where they meet. I would be looking for a tooth on the crank gear with a slightly larger chamfer on the side of the tip . If you can locate that look for some sign in the corresponding  area of the cam gear - such as a small centre pop mark at the base of the V between two teeth.
