Hi folks.

Got myself an ATCO Oil Can today and wondered if anyone might be able to date if for me please? Any help, as always, is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers.

Not sure, the Atco Standard parts list 1920's seems to show the slightly larger oil can with flat sides & separate filler hole with screw in bung, rather than rounded one like yours but they may have produced different sizes for different models??

These were certainly used with the late 1920s "HY" models (12" and 14") that were not supplied with a toolbox. Instead, there was a clip at the lower end of the sideframe handles where the oil can could fit. May also have been supplied with the next generation models, including the DeLuxe range, in the 1930s.

Hi Rob,

From what I have seen there appears to be three main types of oil can that were used with Atco Mowers. There was the early version that was provided with the Atco Standards with the timber tool box. This version can be seen in the following thread https://www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/forum/general-topics/general-discuss…

The second version is similar to the one that you have but is stamped Atco Motor Mower the same as the earlier type. This would have been the one provided with the later Atco Standards (such as the HY) and possibly the 1930's mowers. I understand that there were two sizes, a small and a large one.

The one that you seems to appear some time in the 1930's and is used through to the 1950's. I am not sure if they were provided into the 1960's.

Kind regards,

Sir Chook
