Silens messor

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Hello to all, frustratingly  I couldn't find the forum regarding a club member asking for silens messor numbers, I was at the garage yesterday trying to get some order and dragged my 10 inch messor from the back. The numbers on the side handles are 351750.

So now my mower garage looks more like a mower display than a garage full of scrap. Trouble is, I've now made room for more. It's missing a 6 inch silens messor and a pony mower, which I think it needs. I cannot upload videos so this is a snapshot from the video I've taken to give an idea.

I'm going later so I'll take a better photo of the whole collection, needs signage and it'll be nice

Hi Lee. Your display looks really good. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your collection. Cheers. Rob

Hi Lee

Yes all looking good, as to the SM No. 351750, I would place this at 1911, give or take a year either way.

A good idea for space saving, I'll copy it.
I spotted the Anzani, I'm on the lookout for one so if you come across any let me know please. Are you restoring it?
regards

Is it an Anzani Lee? or an earlier Ranger? Memory's a bit cloudy but was I involved with that one??

Lee Smallwood Sat, 13/02/2021

Yes it is an early Ranger, and when I have a little more time and my mechanic is quite, it'll have a good going over, as you'll see from the pictures I'll add later, there is a few I want to do before. Clive you notified me of it on the bay of e, I was watching it as it was only 5 miles away but happy I won the auction.

Ill happily keep an eye out, I look on various sites every day for the newly listed, I think I saw on an episode of Henry Coles junk and disorderly he bought a Dennis mower and paid over the odds for it, in one of the shots a lawn rider was in the background which looked a better option, to me anyway.

Yes it is an early Ranger,

Near but not quite. I venture to say that it’s actually an Easimow , which was originally made by a company caller EF Ranger from Ferring in Sussex.

Thanks Wristpin, I think we both know that, just being lazy with our words.

Interesting that E F Ranger used a logo I assume purporting to be the Lone Ranger on his horse Silver, although un-masked, perhaps to avoid copyright?

For the youngsters out there The Lone Ranger was a cowboy originating in a 1933 radio show & then TV series 1949 to 1957, so very popular when E F Ranger designed their Easimow in 1953.

A few images follow, an original Ranger Easimow, Ranger logo, The Lone Ranger & a fully restored Anzani Easimow.

Hi-Ho Silver to you all, not forgetting his faithful companion Tonto!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Angus, I was a little blunt with my answer, it is an easy mow but badged Ferring ranger instead of anzani. I've got a picture of the badge I'll attach if I find it. am I right in saying Ferring made it and called it a Ranger, or was it always called an easimow.?

Clive1997 Sat, 13/02/2021

Lee it was made by E F Ranger( Ferring) Ltd, Ferring being just outside Littlehampton in Sussex, a few miles along from me. They did call it the Easimow and this name was retained when British Anzani took over making it I believe in the late 1950's

If you watch Junk and Disorderly, you may have seen me riding round on a French pushbike at a ploughing match... I'd have been tempted but I've got far too much crap already (including what was a perfectly usable bicycle before lockdown...)

I was amused to see him in the episode in question taking it out on a road - when I rode it it had no brakes whatsoever and I had to stop by turning uphill.
