Hello I am a new member, this is my first post

My query is about carburetors, I have recently acquired a ransomes mercury 16" fitted with the villiers engine, date unknown, unfortunately this is missing most of its carb, only the needle and plunger remain, the carb should be a villiers s10, I do however have a villiers s12 and wondered if anyone has had experience of fitting different carbs to mowers, on the face of it this will not work but perhaps some are interchangeable, the inlet fixing hole seems aprox the same at 3/4", I would be pleased of anyones comments, thank you

Lots of unorthodox things are possible if needs must ; give it a try.

Might be worth contacting Paul at Meetens, he may have a good used carb of the correct type.

Thanks for that I heard back from Paul and he can supply a new s10 carb but unfortunately this is £100+, this is many times what I paid for the mower and it does not seem cost effective, my interest is stripping down and restoring the mower so I shall do this and replace bushes, bearings ect and try the s12 carb,

I have mainly worked on suffolks  the spares for these are easily available and it is the first time I have ventured away from the more common machines
