Atco Identification
Hello,
Amongst my wee collection of older mowers, is this Atco 4 hp Briggs & Stratton ( dated August 1975 ), split rear roller with an aluminium grassbox. It is next in line for ' doing up '.
Would anyone be able to recognise this model ?
I proffer my thanks in advance .

Nope, not an HD, long time
Nope, not an HD, long time since I saw one, but it was a short lived model. If I remember correctly, the cylinder cut adjusters are different, instead of the opposing screws of the HD, it used adjuster knobs. The other thing I would check, the cut size, something is nagging at me, is it 18 inch ?
Apologies , tried
Apologies , tried unsuccessfully to upload images of cylinder with tape measure showing a cutting size of 18 inches and an overall width of 20 inches.
Hortimech , you are right
Hortimech , you are right about the short lived model and yes it is an 18" . Only ever saw one and that was after I was fairly sure that the customer had a 17" and not an 18". Had to eat my words then as well!
I have to say that when I said it was an HD 20 the handle bars and Briggs engine were worrying me but I'd forgotten about the 18" option!
Here it is The Atco 18" Middleweight. (please note that the first page is blank)

For once that regular auction site description of "extremely rare" is possibly true!
Many thanks to Wristpin and
Many thanks to Wristpin and Hortimech for their astute observations and for taking time to download the very useful parts manual , despite the paucity of information provided. I have unsuccessfully tried for a few years to find one similar .
I shall look forward to preserving this Atco 18 Middleweight.
Thank you again.
By the looks of it a Heavy
By the looks of it a Heavy Duty 20". (or may be 24"!)
May have started life with rubber covered rear rollers.
