Hi all, new here, let me explain.

ive worked for 15 years looking after peoples lawns professionally, so it was inevitable i got into mowers.

Now I found this at the side of the road with a take me away free note on it. I got it home, got it running and cutting to a fair standard.

But can anyone tell me what it is? ive also become quite attached and would like to do it up, not for show or profit, just because.....

I need a new drive belt to the roller and where to get paint and decals

Help please and thanks

Neil

Image awaited with interest.

Mean while what is it? Belt drive to roller  - Hayter Ambassador, Webb 14/18" Deluxe or something more modern??

Place your bets!!!!

All is revealed!

The part number for a genuine belt is F016L08476 which I believe equates to a Z19.

A fair bit of cleaning up and freeing off to do. The pulley on the cutting cylinder is in two parts with shim washers between them and you may need to add / remove a shim or two to achieve drive or free wheeling.

Thanks very much, ill get onto a new belt. luckily all seems to be free running, can you tell what it is? Colt, punch or something else?

If it is 12" cutting width, a Colt, if 14" a Punch or Super Punch. As it has an aluminium engine and plastic grass box, it is a fairly late one. Suffolk/Qualcast made that model from the 1960s up to late 90s, it got re-badged 30s and 35s when Qualcast "went metric". I think very late ones have a "bought in" engine (Kawasaki or Tecumseh?) I have had an iron engined one since 1970 and my brother was given a 30s, identical to yours, last year. He complains about the vibration, those alloy Qualcast engines do rattle.

It will free run without a belt but the problem starts when the belt is fitted  and you want to pull or push the machine out of drive. The belt then has to slip on the pulleys so they need to be free of corrosion in their Vs and the belt properly adjusted using the moveable keeper and the front pulley shims.

Thank you. it is a 12" cut, and the guy I got it off told me he bought it new in 1974, so I think all you guys hav come up with rings true

glad you said that dieselvet, the grass box fits and all but just doesnt feel right! i was thinking of replacing with a metel one

The plastic grass box was first used when the cast iron engine was still current - about 1975? Think the black alloy A98 engine is 1979 on but often retro fitted over the years I guess . They tend to end up like Triggers broom
