Hi, like a bad penny I return to harass with more mower woes!

I yesterday bought a very tidy and hardly used Qualcast Classic 35a mower.

The machine looks to have had very little use, however it just wouldn’t start. First up, I noted a very weak spark, but after a spot of poking about I found that the contact on the flywheel were covered in muck and rot, quick clean up of coil and contacts and it’s sparking like a good un. Still would not run...

sprayed some brake cleaner in the carb and it ran on that so I knew all is good.

Stripped the carb and it’s a real mess, I noticed the bowl seal was rotten, the jets all blocked up and the Venturi seals were rotten. I pulled the Venturi to note it’s snapped and twisted, the choke spindle is also twisted.

Looking at it it I think it’d be easier to just replace the carb with a new one rather than buy bits.

My question is, what carbs will fit as finding a like for like is a pig.

Engine: AQ148 - E-45520E

Carb: 5148

Im assuming any of the 3.5hp carbs will work?

any help before I buy some rubbish from eBay

thanks again

Quite possibly as that A148 is basically a Tecumseh. If that carb does fit it has the great advantage of an adjustable main jet - a luxury in these emission compliant days!

Thanks Sir. That is pretty much what I thought too.

I priced up a new Venturi and seals and I was way over the cost of this carb, I figure I may as well take a punt, if it doesn’t fit it’ll be easy enough to adapt the manifold to fit, and if that fails I figure I can pillage parts from it to repair my OE one?

i need to stop buying stuff I don’t need

Bought the carb, and the mower runs, but I’m having a bit of a job getting it to run well.

Annoying!
