Atco no spark

Help required please, no  spark on me Atco 17” Light 1957, old coil was open circuit so I,ve replaced it along with a new ht lead.I’m getting 5k ohms between earth and ht lead,lead between coil and points is good,points are opening and gap is correct.What have I missed?

since it out of the frame I am spinning the engine with an electric drill

Did the original set up have a separate condenser?  If not, has your replacement coil got the embedded condenser ?  They look quite similar.

The coil I have replaced it with is a cheapy from green spark plug,so presumably no condenser the, original has the condenser under the points I think

Forget all my last post about coils  - I though that your machine was much younger . 

Your coil is probably fine but you do have a condenser hidden under the round points box and it is quite likely to be the cause of your lack of spark. To test it properly you need to find someone with the proper testing equipment but new condensers are available from Villiers parts etc.
