Suffolk Super Colt Grass Box

Hello,

I'm new to the vintage lawnmower scene. I've just got myself a Suffolk Super Colt and having got it running (albeit not perfectly) I'm starting to think about getting the thing smartened up and ready to use. One notable missing part is the grass box for the mower, I was given a grass box with it but it's too narrow for the machine, I'm not sure what it is for as most of the writing on it has come off with the paint.

I'm looking for a grass box for the mower but haven't as yet found anyone selling one, not without the mower attached anyway. It seems a little daft to buy anohter mower just for it's box, and besides I don't think my wife would be very happy! So I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere that sold such an item, I've seen new Suffolk Punch boxes for sale but I'm guessing they're a different fit.

Any help greatfully received!

Regards,

Andy

Either a steel or plastic one of the era will fit but please give the dimension between the flats of the mounting positions on each outer side of the chassis and the width of the cutting cylinder.  Reason for asking is that the same style of mower appeared in 12, 14 and 17" widths. The 17" was only a Punch but there was also a 14" Punch as well as a 14"and 12" Super Colts! There is a possible match on flebay at present (330818999280) and I've asked the guy to measure between the brackets.

Happy Hunting!

Hello

a while ago I received a super colt grassbox for my super colt

but as I don`t want the mower or the box you might be able to have the box

for maybe, £3 ?

If you are interested then I should be able to get measurements

Best regards

Seb

Thank you for your help. I shall get the measurements tomorrow, I'll only trip over something if I try to get into the shed in the darkness now!

Thanks again,

Andy

I've just been out to measure it and the cylinder is 12" and the distance between the flats of the mounting positions is a little over 15", maybe 15" 1/4?

Thanks,

Andy

Unfortunately the auction seller has not replied with the measurements of his.

ello andy.

good to hear you're restoring a super colt. gorgious little machines and I have to admit, I like them a lot. have restored several in my time. if you go onto my site... http://redfernvintagemowers.wordpress.com and then go to restorations, go to the bottom of th page and there you'll see  see photos of a client's super colt restored to original specifications. just so you see what you could do with one.

It took over a week to restore the one on the site between coatings, engine service work, etc but in the end it has been a real pleasure to do. my client is a member of the list and I hear from him every so often. It's nice to know his machine has brought joy to someone dear to him. It's an honour to do that kind of work.

if you're struggling and could do with help, drop me a line.

take care.

Ed

I did get a response, he thinks it's for a 14" mower. Not sure to which dimension he is referring with the 14" but it doesn't sound like a fit for mine. Shall keep searching!

Normally a 14" mower means a 14" cutting cylinder but some people have other ideas!

"...but some people have other ideas!"

That's my concern precisely!

I now possess a grassbox for my Suffolk Super Colt. Thank you for your help everyone, I would certainly have ended up with one the wrong size without it.
