New Hayter Green Colour

Hi...I'm new here but I've been restoring old mowers oblivious to this great forum/club and wondered if someone could help me.....?

Would anyone know the name or colour code (RAL or BS) of the NEW Hayter green....?

I have a relatively young (1995) Hayter Harrier 56 in my workshop and a friend of mine can mix spray paint....all he needs to know is the code or name.

Thanks in anticipation

Cheers

Al

Don't know about the RAL, but it was always referred to as British Racing Green on all the Hayter service courses I went on.

Certainly not British Racing Green as in the usual description . if your friend can mix to a Ral number can he not scan an unfaded part of your machine. If not find a friendly printer that uses the Pantone colour matching system and come up with a Pantone number which will cross reference to Ral or the Lechler system.

Having trouble posting images ?

see here: https://www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/forum/guidelines/adding-images

Coming back to the paint colour, didn't work much on the later domestic machines, just the commercial machines, T20, T24, T44 LT312, LT324 etc and they were all British Racing Green. I went to numerous Hayter services courses down at Spellbrook, I even repaired and repainted several of the fibreglass seat pans and I used British racing green to paint them.

With the exception of one Hayter Beaver trailed triple that was actually painted and badged as a John Deere my experience is limited to their domestic machines . Looking at my Harrier 48, I would say that it’s green is considerably darker than BRG. The catalogue from my usual paint supplier unhelpfully says New Hayter Green !!

EDIT

It would seem that BRG can be any shade of dark green that a given manufacturer wants it to be  !,

Hi guys....thanks for your replies. I tried to reply yesterday and it all went wrong!!! I'll try and find someone with a scanner....maybe a decorators shop or something...I'll use my charm! It does look like BRG....or maybe RAL 6009 (fir green)....I'm thinking maybe the powers that be at Hayter decided to use this colour to succeed their old colour of RAL 6025 (Fern Green)??

No, it wasn't a Hayter Beaver badged as a JD, it was especially made by Hayter for JD. The cutter units were very similar to the Hayter ones, but the chassis was made especially for JD and wasn't used on any of their own trailed hydraulic gangs. You could not buy any of the chassis parts from Hayter, they had to come from JD.

The problem with Hayter is their background, in the early days they would build machines in short runs using anything they could obtain and it seemed to stick, they used any colour of paint, perhaps they retained this mentality by having one 'British Racing Green' for the commercial machines and another for the domestic machines ?

That makes sense, just looked at a couple of old jobs and see that the cylinders and bottom blades had Hayter numbers and everything else JD.

It was always said that due to post war materials restrictions the steel front frames of the old "wheelbarrow" Hayter 24s were made from old army bed frames. Their resourcefulness was still evident in the 1980/90s when due to planning problems they were storing ride-on  machines in poly tunnels at the rear of the factory!

My local B&Q were able to give me a scan match for my Marquis for free, should have taken the card output.. Brush on paint obviously but the minimum order quantity was a litre at £24 if I remember right.

Have used Auto Extreme rattle can BRG on a few mowers and even that seems to vary from batch to batch..
