It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of Mr James Wild. Some of you may remember earlier in the year I featured my Ransomes Marquis in an edition of Grassbox.. I highlighted my journey to obtain this wonderful and totally complete mower including mower carriage. I went to a lovely Victorian Farmhouse near the Essex / Suffolk border and met a lovely man called James Wild the owner of the mower. His grandson was selling his large and amazing collection of mowers, seed drills and other vintage horticultural and farming machinery / implements on behalf of his grandfather. I was shown around a large collection of farm buildings whilst being very privileged to be able to talk to Mr Wild about his years of collecting and preserving machinery. It is people like him who had the foresight to collect and effectively save these items that we are all able to enjoy today. I was very sad to learn of his passing but at least some of his very special machines are now safe in my collection to be enjoyed and preserved. Sean

Very sorry to hear that - especially as he must have been reasonably close to my childhood stamping ground - but, as you say, hurrah for what he preserved.
