Good Afternoon

Im new to the group as i am looking for information on a atco mower found in my Dad's garage. The only thing i know about it is, that it belonged to my Grandparents when they belonged to a lawn bowling cub in Berrie Ontario Canada. We have no idea of value, or anything . I do know nothing is ceased the kick start moves freely .

17" cut cylinder mower powered by a little Villiers two stroke "Midget" petrol engine , and its a 1953 if im reading the tag right but i dont understand what the other letters mean on the tag (17L53NME). This site has help with alot of information , just not enough for my parents.  They want to sell it and we have no idea where to begin with this. the Internet is not a lot of help on this subject. Any help would be helpful

Interesting machine with an 8 or 10? bladed cylinder which goes with your mention of a bowling club. A 17" machine made in 1953 and I'm guessing that the L may signify a Club specification.

As for the NME, similar letters have been the subject of some recent  unresolved speculation on this forum.

Or possibly 9 blade? Just found reference in an Atco brochure which I assume is for 1953 as it is by Appointment to the late King George V1.

Under the heading 'Superfine Cutting' for Bowling Greens, Golf Greens, Croquet Lawns Cricket Wickets etc

It mentions equipment for this highly specialised mowing includes 9 blade cutting cylinder, and bottom blade precision-ground to any required thickness. Also emphasising  that the light weight 14 & 17in mowers are ideal for this work.

Unable to find any other reference, manuals I have seem to only refer to 20in Special mowers, not 17in.

You state you are looking to sell, not sure about the USA but over here if working might get £30 -£50 but is there a grass box?

Thank you for the information, no there is no Grass Box. I'll let my parents know the info,  In Canada there is nothing for information on this Mower, so any info is a great help.
