16" Ransoms with a Blackburn Engine various parts needed

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I recently purchased a Ransoms Simms and Jefferies lawn mower with a blackburn engine. I want to find some information about it the Reg number is A2303. I need a petrol tank as it is missing and one of the rear cast rollers has been damaged. I am looking to get it working ASAP so any help will be gratefully received. This last image shows the type of fuel tank that I need. This shows the tank that I need

Hello

Welcome to the club, the mower you have is often referred to as the Horseshoe Tank model for obvious reasons, yours appears to have the ornate scraper bar/nameplate missing from just behind the rear roller, this would give th Mark number 5, 5A, 6 etc and also the cutting width, you state yours is a 16".

Usually with the Mk number & serial number which you have I can establish a fairly precise date of manufacture, it will probably be from the 1930's.

I may know where there is a Horsehoe Tank, but on a mower that has had a replacement tank fitted alongside, so assume the original leaks!

Where are you located?

I am in Ely Cambridgeshire, any help identifying it will be good, I can repair a holed tank if necessary. That will be great if you can locate one. I need the N/S rear cast roller also and a grass box. Some photos of what it should look like would be useful also. Thank you for your response

Sorry I have no spares but here are some photos of my 16" Mk4, circa late 1920's.

The tank has two caps, petrol on top and oil on the front.

cheers

Alan can you post a picture of the scraper plate on the rear of the machine please

This is how the clutch rod and lever should be arranged.

Your one appears to be upside down.

The last image shows the spring attached to the bolt in the lower foreground.

Great images of quality British engineering at its best. Even the basic design and shape of the grassbox  brackets survived right through to the Mastiffs of the 1970s .

I received my new rollers today given them the first coat of rung oil.

Rung oil - what's that.?

Ah, see it now, fat fingers!

Interesting

Precautions

Pure Tung Oil is extracted from nuts and may cause an allergic reaction.
Store Pure Tung Oil at a temperature above 5°C. Always replace the lid otherwise the oil can deteriorate.
Oily cloths can self-combust. Do not leave impregnated cloths in bundles. Before discarding the cloths lay them flat outside to dry to avoid a fire hazard.
If the excess is not removed and the surface becomes sticky, wipe with white spirit to remove the sticky film and allow to dry before continuing.
