cork clutch pads

I read an article by olcadmin on 28/04/2015 about rejuvenating the corks on petrol taps because they had shrunk.  The idea was to 'cook' them slightly with a gas torch so they would expand.  I was wondering if the same principal could be applied to the cork inserts on clutches like Ransomes Mercury and Auto Certes and Qualcast 16 etc.?

Can't recall the cooking with a a gas torch procedure but I know that some people boil the tap plungers to expand them. However it's never worked for me!

I have seen a blow torch used to burn oil off of clutch corks but not so sure about using heat to expand the cork on a fuel tap, if I tried that it would probably just ignite it.

I have however suspended a fuel tap in a petrol can to bring it back to life after it had dried out but not very safe to have a clutch plate soaking in an open container unless you can use a safer liquid than petrol.
