Hi all first post, after looking for years I've finally bought an old mower, a qualcast 16 - i think! Not sure if I'm going to restore it or just keep as is, when I've cleaned it up as much as poss I'll have a better idea, also if I can get hold of the transfers, my make my mind up. Can anyone help with the age of this, hopefully I'm about to put up some pics......

Could I suggest you delete the photobucket link, it appears to lead to an unsafe site which my PC has blocked, try loading the images in line with the guidlines.

Thanks

It needs new rollers, a play with the carb, its very smokey and needs a bit of help to start and a de coke. But it runs and cuts grass :-)

l got it locally off e bay from a guy who's dad bought it second hand in 1961!!!

It looks to be a good original machine, in which case I would suggest a good clean & keep it original, good to have a decent box, they are usually missing.

Its probably a late machine possibly 1940's early 1950's I know the original 1934 type had the tank hanging from the handles & my 1938 catalogue shows the engine with a forward tilt, the later ones upright like yours. Is the original transfer still on the front of box?

Forgot to mention, the club do a grassbox transfer, probably worth joining us to take advantage of this & other support.

I'll definitely put the transfers on my wanted list! Had a play between the rain showers today, drained the tank and refilled as on the filler cap with 1 quort petrol and 30w oil. Ran well with no smoke :-)

Then sprayed some carb cleaner through.... Wish I hadn't as now only just runs, I guess I've dislodged some crud, it's running but won't rev up. Moving the throttle made little or difference.
