Paint

I bought some brush paint from ebay (Qualcast green) the colour is good, but even after preping the panels, heating the shed and warming the paint and parts I found the stuff a complete *arstard to work with. Streaked in a heartbeat and the mildest of overbrush caused it too wipe off. The finish is pretty disappointing even for agricultural. Given that tons of this stuff has been sold with ok feedback I will put it down to an off tin or a paint only to be applied in the Kalahari.

I've been painting car, bicycle and motorbikes for years via compressor or rattle can with good finishes - last time I am using a brush!

My handles and fuel tank are a darker green which I quite like but could do with a spruce, went to B&Q who could mix an exact match - but only on a minimum of 1L at £30! thats a lot of handles and tanks so passed on that..

I will stick with what I know and spray in future...

I hate painting! Give me an engine any day - the bigger the better!

Been doing this Ransomes Sprite with rattle cans, picking low humidity days and warming both the machine and the cans . Looks better in the pics than in the metal !  Will probably repaint in the summer.

That does not look too bad, painting in the winter can be frustrating.

I may strip this back down as well, but then again ..:-) - no close ups haha!

Tank and handles as they came to me, no idea if original colour but I like the contrast, sort of British racing green, so have ordered spray in that to re do.

On the subject of paint. I have never had much look with spray cans always seems too thin and runs !

I personally always use "Leyland" paint.  Strip to bare metal.  Kurust if needed then one coat of gray undercoat followed by one or two coats of gloss. Sanding gently between coats. Applied with a good quality brush (very important) take care and you will produce a perfect finish quite easily. Weather permitting hopefully warm and no wind blowing dust about !

Wristpin - the Sprite certainly looks better than it did when it left my shed.

johntec - interesting to hear that you prefer to use Leyland paint, I have not used it before so it will interesting to see how I get on with it, I have just bought some to paint the Ransomes edger that I am currently restoring - work covered in its own thread. I have yet to get the shade correct as the mix that I ordered has turned out to be far too light in colour, long story how but the moral of the tale is that when the paint shop say we can scan that let them.

John what country do you live in? :-)

Take the point on a good brush, may have been half my problem, finish on yours looks good.
