Sharpening

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Hello I am a new member so apologies if the query I have is already addressed  on the website. I have a Qualcast Panther dating from 1957 which is in bits at the moment awaiting renovation. I was wondering how I should sharpen the base plate. Is it best to square it off or should I taper it to a sharp edge.

Thanks

Do you have a multi thousand pound bottom blade grinder ? If not, just fit a new bottom blade.

Also just refacing or replacing the bottom blade will not be enough, you will need to regrind the cylinder as well, it is a bit like grinding only one blade in a pair of scissors.

Thanks for the prompt response Hortimech obviously not the simple job I had in mind. The bottom blade has never been removed so taking it off will need patience and probably not a little heat still nothing ventured. Just by the way where would one find a new bottom blade?
