Hi,
I keep skelping great chunks out of my lawn when I go for a short cut with my Atco B17 Deluxe. Could my front rollers be worn down too much? Does front roller diameter matter to cut performance?

In addition, if your machine still has its original wooden front rollers, there is likely to be a fair amount of "slop" between the bore of the rollers and the shaft that they run on. So, when carrying out the height and level check, make sure that you push up on the front rollers to get a true "in work" cutting height.

You can check your height of cut with a straight edge and a measure, tip the machine backwards and place the straight edge along the underside the machine, one end on the rear roller and the other on the front roller. If you now measure the distance between the top of the straight edge and the top of the bottom blade, this will give you the effective cutting height. Your actual cutting height will be slightly less than the effective cutting height and will probably be lower than what you should be cutting the grass at ;-)
