How do you remove the Extension Cylinder Spindle

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Hi all,

I have hit a snag in my restoration project of my Ransomes 20" Auto Certes MK2.

I am trying to remove the Extension Cylinder Spindle (MBA 4958) from the cutting cylinder however I am unsure if it is threaded or just needs tapping off?

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi, Welcome to the Old Lawnmower Club. The Auto Certes extension spindle is I am sure screwed on to the end of the cylinder with a left handed thread. If you lock the cylinder with a piece of wood you then can either tap the the spline  with a brass drift or use a chain wrench around the extension piece to slacken the thread in a clockwise direction. This is assuming that you have already removed the locking screw (also a L/H thread) and dog clutch assembly.      Ray.
