Villiers Midget oil in silencer

I have been running an old Villiers Midget 2 stroke. After about 5 mins operating time it starts to leak oil/fuel from the end of the exhaust/silencer. Is this normal with these old engines? Could I have the oil petrol mix with too much oil? or worn piston rings? Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise the engine runs well.

Probably "normal" for a worn engine. Are you just running it off load or is it being worked?

The engine is running off load just ticking over and starts to drip from the silencer. What would be worn? and what could be done to remedy the situation if anything.

No experience with this engine but it would appear to be over fueling and not burning all the mixture. Are you able to put it under load and make it work hard for long enough to get the exhaust system good and hot for half an hour or so and see what happens?

Alternatively take the silencer off , take it out side and give it a good "cook" with a blow lamp from all angles until it stops smoking . That will clear the reservoir of soft oily carbon that will have built up over the years .

You may just have to accept that it is  "what it does" at its age and state of wear. At least you have a running engine!

I have only been running the engine for about 10 mins to check it over so I will give it a proper run and up to a good temperature, it may then start to burn off the excess fuel. I had changed the silencer and the replacement was clean inside.

I have an Atco with a similar engine and the silencer on this gets oily,It runs on 32/1

petroil mix using SAE 30 oil rather than modern two stroke oil.I wouldn't worry too much.
