Ransomes Register

I have just purchased a Ransomes Sixteen with a Norton Villiers 4 stroke Engine No. (D07.10) (01 11109) and am trying to date it.

The machine number is DS4337 and is a MK 2. Beyond that I know nothing.

I wondered if anyone knows whether a register exists to be able to date it from the number or anything else about these machines.

Was the Sixteen also known as the Meteor and was it a predecessor of the Marquis?

Any clues would be appreciated.

Unless Ransomes "reused" the name, no! The Meteors that I have worked on were heavy duty 20 and 24" inch machines with JAP engines.which later became Matadors. There was a 16" Mercury with a Villiers engine and later a Clinton.

As far as I know the Marquis name was only been used on 18 and 20" machines until the current era when the model name was "metricated" to Marquis 45,51 and 61.
