Stubborn clutch adapter

Hi there,
does anyone know of a clever way to remove the clutch adapter from the drive shaft of a villiers midget? It's missing one of its "fingers" and I want to replace it with another one:
It is threaded and tapered,
It is threaded and tapered, so if you can “break” the taper it will unscrew ( anti clockwise) . If you rest it on something solid, ideally an anvil, and give it a good smack with a lump hammer it should shock it enough to release the taper. Bear in mind that the crank is a pressed together assembly and that holding it at the flywheel end and applying excessive turning force to the adaptor, can twist it.
